I’ve noticed that recently this community has had a lot of posts that have general, useful but not extremely important advice, like a lot of cooking stuff and such (I won’t name any names but I think you all know what I mean), as opposed to what this community posted a while ago: very crucial information.

Any thoughts on this?

Until all the cooking/kitchen stuff I saw today, I don’t know that I’d ever specifically noticed YSK posts before. Not sure if that’s good or bad, just my feedback.

I’m not a fan, most of them aren’t things people should know, they’re more just like “eh, this is kinda handy to know if you’re into that sort of thing.”

I had to sign out to see those posts…

Which should tell you how effective the block button is when you have an issue with a single poster.

Waaaaay more effective than making a post about it.

Hey interesting, I have no awareness of the cooking posts either! I’ve been around for more than 2 years… I very quickly realized that this platform is a piece of trash… The only way to cut through to the good content is to block 50% of the contributors.

I must have blocked whoever posted those a long time ago and I never saw them.

Blocking users is a wonderful feature. Most people have absolutely nothing to say and you only dishonor yourself by falsely believing that a democratic discussion forum is useful.

If it’s a niche it should probably have a dedicated community for it: e.g. c/[email protected]

Personally I did like the button sewing post, maybe that is generally useful enough that everyone should know. But I’m already in a few repair/DIY community that never get enough posts, and I’ve just found a ‘Sewing, Repairing and Reducing Waste’ one where it’d fit too.

Maybe it could be tolerated but should have a tag like [NICHE] in a title and a recommendation that OP should cross-post it as a way to promote/ support the other communities.

Rule 2 is still in place, the posts have been removed, and the user was cautioned against posting picture only posts.
